We've written about various types of fan signs in the past, but Tuesday night at the MLB All Star Game, we witnessed an extremely low point in the marriage between Sharpie markers and poster-board.

Let's quickly try to list some of the offenses in the following fan creation.

Awful ESPN Fan Sign

  • Mundane ESPN acronym usage

  • Lack of creativity in letter utilization

  • Rhyme fail between the letter "n" and "man"

  • Runny ink

  • A crossed-out idea

Frankly, the crossed-out blob is my favorite blunder because this artist logically decided that whatever was blacked out didn't quite make the cut on his masterpiece.

I know, I know.  He's a kid.  Give him a break, right?

Terrible ESPN Fan Sign

Wrong.

Update: The pictures above are from the Tuesday night All Star Game, which was on FOX...not ESPN.  Acronym fan signs are an easy way to get some camera face time, but not when they're the wrong network call-letters.

I bet what he crossed out was "To The." I think he just put "To The" after every letter. Apparently this kid is the reincarnation of Moesha.

It's obvious Ron Artest made the last sign. The "z" is a dead give away. That shit is hot son!

That last one was ironic. Signs suck. And for the record if any of your "culture", pop or otherwise is derived from youtube, you are an idiot and suck horribly. That sign is horrible even by horrible sign standards. For the record, I'm saying that the streaks are from the kid's tears after realizing that the sign was awful and his alcoholic abusive father made him take it anyway.

You guys do suck. How dare you make fun of a crappy sign, from some jerk kid. Don't you know that he is a part of the best fans of any sport of all time in the history of the world? Anything one of these fans does is golden.

I originally thought the crossed-out crap said "NEXT".

looks to me like the "N" said "news." I can clearly see the "e" after "n" in the kids sign.I like the post, Sebek. Keep it up.

I got taken to the woodshed on this one. Full disclosure. "YOU GUYS SUCK NOW" can swallow a sword.
Ernest, July 15, 2009 07:07 PM
This site really went downhill when you switched away from the mustard yellow background.
YOU GUYS SUCK NOW, July 15, 2009 06:07 PM
I liked the site way better before you hired this SEBEK idiot to overhaul the site and start posting crappy contentFire him and go back to the old site that had good content and less of a sleek poser lookyou guys went down the toilet FAST

I'm officially going to take everything I read on this blog from now on with a grain of salt (if I continue to read at all). Get your facts straight before you lash out on someone or something. And really, to not know about the Lonely Island? I didn't think a holed-up 89-year-old North Dakota woman was running this show. Sad, sad state of affairs.

Do your homework before making fun of a sign. It's embarassing to you if you are more unaware of pop-culture than a 7 year old kid. Thumbs down for you and your blog.
Keg44, July 15, 2009 03:07 PM
I'm not sure if it's runny ink. Could be someone had the runs. They're biggest mistake was living it at the stadium allowing you to get your hands on it!
Ernest, July 15, 2009 02:07 PM
Maybe the little kid is a racist, and blacked out an N-bomb after his horrified parents saw it?
Benjamin, July 15, 2009 12:07 PM
The We Like Sportz sign is from 'Lonely Island' the song 'We Like Sportz' I give that one a pass, the ESPN sign is lame tho
the little kid, July 15, 2009 11:07 AM
But I got my pic on Joesportsfan.com, so suck on that.

Probably to get linked on a website. Check.

I still don't understand what would possess someone to hold up a sign that contains a reference to a viral internet video.

Mark Grant

Nothing captivated Mark Grant more than when the ice cream truck strolled through Spring Training camp in April. Goddam, he loved that jingle.
