October 10th, 1967

bob-gibson-cardOn this day, the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Boston Red Sox in the 1967 World Series.

That's right, the Cardinals beat the Red Sox, 4 games to 3, to win the World Series.  After the weekend Cardinals fans endured, this event seems appropriate to "celebrate".  Unless, of course, you're a Red Sox fan.  Either way.

The 1967 World Series and its encompassing season, featured a variety of notable achievements.

Bob Gibson missed nearly half of the season due with a broken leg, suffered when he was struck by a ball hit by Pittsburgh's Roberto Clemente.  Gibson was back for the World Series and threw three complete games while giving up three runs across that span.  Jesus.

1967 also featured the Triple Crown season from the Red Sox's Carl Yastrzemski, who also won the American League's MVP aware.  Obviously.

Hall of Famer, Lou Brock, stole three bases in Game 7 of the World Series and set the record for most steals (7). in a seven-game series
