October 27th, 1985
This date is certainly a date that Cardinals fans will never forget. Kansas City fans, either. For it is on this day that Don Denkinger blew a horrendous call at first base during Game 6 of the 1985 World Series between the
St. Louis Cardinals and the
Kansas City Royals.
Unofficial reports had Denkinger stating that he was distracted by the glimmer of Todd Worrell's mustache.
Official reports had Denkinger admitting that he was a humongous douche and explaining that douches do douchey things from time to time.
Impress your co-workers: St. Louis pitcher, Joaquin Andujar, and manager Whitey Herzog were both ejected during Game 7 action - which ended in an 11-0 Royals blowout for the World Series title. At least Andujar and Herzog got their money's worth.
