October 27th, 1985

This date is certainly a date that Cardinals fans will never forget.  Kansas City fans, either.  For it is on this day that Don Denkinger blew a horrendous call at first base during Game 6 of the 1985 World Series between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Royals.

Unofficial reports had Denkinger stating that he was distracted by the glimmer of Todd Worrell's mustache.

Official reports had Denkinger admitting that he was a humongous douche and explaining that douches do douchey things from time to time.

Impress your co-workers: St. Louis pitcher, Joaquin Andujar, and manager Whitey Herzog were both ejected during Game 7 action - which ended in an 11-0 Royals blowout for the World Series title.  At least Andujar and Herzog got their money's worth.

The Don Dekinger call was attrocious to be sure, but there is no excuse for getting blown out in game 7. Anyone willing to use that as an excuse for losing the WS is in the same boat as the Bartman-blaming crowd here in Chi-Town. Sure, this was clearly a more detrimental to the game as it was the ump making the call, but regardless, go out and win game 7. It didn't end the series. And yes, I'm sure I am in the minority on this one...WAY in the minority

Andujar really got his money's worth. He had to be restrained by like 4 teammates. Whitey said in one of his book that he and Andujar sat in the clubhouse after he ejection and enjoyed some of the company product "chilled to perfection"

Dammit Chris. Making me look bad. On the douche power rankings, I'm right behind Denkinger.

I'm afraid Chris is correct. Game 7 was played on 10/27. -1 Cardinals knowledge point for JSF. 1 for Chris

Sorry but this is wrong. Game 6 ocurred on October 26th. Game 7 was on the 27th. Plus, no one was ejected on that play. The next night during game 7 Denkinger ejected both Herzog and Andujar. Come on man, get your facts correct.

Rudy was not amused when the Fleer photographer attempted to break the ice by asking him if he had ever been in trouble with his last name.
