Earlier this week, we "celebrated" the 24 year anniversary of the infamous 1985 World Series game where one man decided to haphazardly rip Game 6 momentum from the St. Louis Cardinals and hand-deliver it to the Kansas City Royals.  We shouldn't name names, but for sake of clarity, it was Don Denkinger.

Don Denkinger.

Since our readers observe our (sometimes blind) loyalty to our beloved Cardinals, we received the following photo in our Inbox yesterday.

Don Denkinger Jersey

Pricks.

Truth be told, as we step back from our St. Louis allegiance and regular personalized jersey abhorrence, we must admit that this jersey is moderately entertaining.  The Royals and Cards usually play one or two interleague series per year and during those weekends, the host city is bombarded with unoriginal drunken monkeys.  Royals suck.  Cardinals take it in the Pu-Holes.  It's all *very* original.

The guy above took a step outside the box and got creative.  We appreciate that, ever so slightly.  It's more than we can say about the idiot standing to his right, who went the traditional "I'm a crazy guy with crazy hair on my crazy head!! Look at me!!" route.

Side Note: the general idea of the DENKINGER jersey prompted a question on this week's JoeSportsFan Show, in which we asked our guests, "You goal for a Halloween costume this year is to horrify one distinct fan base.  What are you going as?"  The show will be released on Wednesday afternoon.  Check back for download information.

How funny is it now that we're even discussing the Royals EVER winning a World Series. Maybe Denkinger knew something that we didn't.

I don't know if it would horrify Cowboys fans, but dressing up as former kicker Rafael Septien should scare the shit out of some kids.

The guy would get more credit if he actually wore an umpire uniform with the name Denkinger on the back. This is just half-assing it.

That is a pretty damn funny jersey, I have to admit

It probably depends on how you interpret "Denkinger is a member of the Royals statement." Either Denkinger is a Royal, and that was awesome for Royals fans in '85, or you're a Cards fan and it definitely wasn't.

I actually think this guy could be interpreted as a Cardinals fan. He's basically saying that "Denkinger is a member of the Royals". Then again, he's also wearing a Royals hat - which somewhat contradicts that theory.

I went to a Halloween party in 2003 dressed as Steve Bartman. Since I was in Colorado where they don't know jack about baseball, the only person at the party who got my costume was the other guy dressed like Bartman.

Being a Sox fan, if I really wanted to destroy the morale of a fan base and start 1000 fights, I would wear a uniform somehow incorporating Donnie Moore and Nick Adenhart. Its disturbing that I was able to come up with that in 1.5 seconds. I have a problem.

Is the red wig guy wearing a Cardinals "Denkinger" shirt?

Brent Gaff

When he realized his dream of pitching in the Major Leagues was over in 1984, Brent Gaff came out of the closet and signed on with the Red Sox as an outfielder named Mike Greenwell.
