On this day, the St. Louis Blues will accomplish a truly remarkable feat; intersecting sports fans and dorks.  At least, their marketing team hopes to accomplish this feat.  Tonight vs. Colorado, the Blues will unveil "Star Wars Night" at Scottrade Center in downtown St. Louis.

Any fan that comes to the game in a Star Wars costume can buy Lower Bowl tickets for 50% off at the Scottrade Center Box Office.  It's that simple.  Darth Maul, on the glass, for 1/2 price of face value.  Look out, Colorado.

The purpose of sponsored venue gimmicks/giveaways at professional sporting events is simple; entice existing fans or appeal to potential new ones.  Our research is still pending, but early results show that the majority of hockey fans aren't winning any Star Wars trivia contests.  Van Halen expertise?  Absolutely.  Mustang carburetor knowledge?  Yep.  Star Wars?  Not so much.

Credit the Blues marketing staff for trying to expose their product to a previously-overshadowed demographic; geeks.  The intersection of "people that understand sports" and "people that wear Jar Jar Binks shirts" is small, yet distinguished.

This night is for them.

You'd better believe I'm distinguished! I have actually won Star Wars trivia contests, son, AND as a lifelong hockey fan (we're talking decades) I can remember the days when Pens fans regularly chanted "Barrrrrrrrclay" at former Bluesman Barclay Plager. November 22, 1972 mean anything to you? I thought not.May the puck be with you.

I love hockey and Star Wars. I've also never seen live breasts.

I'm actually a Blues full season ticket holder and a huge Star Wars fan...so it does happen (even going to see Star Wars in Concert this Thursday at Scottrade). That being said, I sold my tickets for tonight. I don't want to take the chance on sitting next to Darth Never Had a Date and Obi Wan Lives in His Parents Basement.

Carmen Castillo

In 1982 Carmen Castillo batted a career low .208. It was then that teammates informed him that his hitting was likely to improve if he took the weighted donut off for his actual at-bats.
