December 11, 1995

On the this day 14 years ago, Texas businessman Tom Hicks purchased the Dallas Stars franchise a year after they moved from Minnesota.

Hicks' tenure as the grand poobah of the Dallas Stars has been worthwhile.  From a business standpoint, the Stars' franchise has rapidly increased to a value of $273 million (Forbes) since 1995 - which ranks #6 in the NHL.  Under Hicks' reign, the Stars has won seven Division Championships, three Western Conference crowns, two Presidents' Trophies and the 1999 Stanley Cup Championship - which featured the infamous Brett Hull illegal-skate-in-the-crease game winning goal.

Despite an insanely productive career, the moment served to be defining picture of Hull's career.  Well, besides that wonderful feathered mullet that he sported during his time with the Blues.

Impress your co-workers: Tom Hicks owns and operates Hicks Sports Group (clever name), which owns the Texas Rangers, the Dallas Stars, the Mesquite Championship Rodeo and fifty percent of Liverpool FC.

Hicks owns the Rangers right now, but will probably sell it soon to help pay for the overseas soccer team (oops, sorry, I mean futbol). As for Hull, it was a legal goal. Maybe Hasek should control his rebounds a little better. Like the MMA announcers repeat ad nauseum, never let it go to the judges.

He owns the "the Mesquite Championship Rodeo"??? Yee-hah!

Carmen Castillo

In 1982 Carmen Castillo batted a career low .208. It was then that teammates informed him that his hitting was likely to improve if he took the weighted donut off for his actual at-bats.
