On this day 34 years ago, former MLB pitcher Eric Gagne was born into the world.  At 35 years old, it seems strange that Gagne is out of Major League Baseball - especially considering that he was was statistically the most outstanding reliever during the first half of the decade.  He won the Cy Young Award in 2003 and during a three year span (2002-2004), he set a major league record of 84 straight converted save chances.

Not too shabby.

Truth be told, Gagne is our featured nugget of sports history because...a.) he looks frighteningly similar to Seth Rogen...and b.) it allows us to post a self-gratifying link to "Tom Henke's Army" - which features a collection of other, less prominent four-eyed ball players.

Don't stop believing...in yourselves. Nice Oakley tan, Powers.

Henke would never allow a juicer in his ranks. That's a fact. Speaking of look alikes, I think SGT Steve "Trout" wears his glasses to disguise the fact that he's actually Steve Perry, former lead singer of Journey.

Jive, the Rangers -- and enhanced drug testing -- proved a lethal mix for Gagne's career.

Any of u's guys seen East Bound and Down? lol kinda similiar (except I never saw Gagne curse, drink, screw, etc.....)

To be fair, Express, you did throw some serious heat in MLB for 27 years. Maybe the Rangers suckiness caused that ligament to tear, or maybe 46 year old men shouldn't be expected to pitch that hard.

Jive, the Rangers did finally end my career.

Poor Gagne. He committed a cardinal sin (no pun intended) when he signed with the Rangers. They've proven an inate ability to ruin pitchers' careers. Except Ryan, but nothing was stopping that. Maybe Gagne's history of injuries would have stopped his career anyway, but I prefer to think that pitching for Texas hastened his decline.

What do you mean I look *similar* to Gagne? Have you ever seen us in the same place?

John Pacella

His Mets teammates knew Pacella was pitching hammered again when prior to the 5th inning he started throwing punches at the imaginary gorilla he had been talking to all game.
