July 2010: Whitey Inducted into HoF; Snubs Ricky Henderson
[ Stay tuned throughout the day as we dig through our 2010 archives and photo galleries to recap some of our favorite pictorial moments from the past year in St. Louis sports... ]
Immediately following his induction speech into the Hall of Fame on Sunday, Whitey Herzog schmoozed with fellow legends on stage.
Gary Carter, Hank Aaron, Dennis Eckersley and fellow inductee, Andre Dawson.
Not included on Whitey’s list of handshakes: Ricky Henderson.
Ohhhh, we didn’t think it was possible to love Whitey Herzog any more than we already did.
And because we find costumed-adults extremely entertaining (read: mockable), let us recall the beginning of Rams training camp when the Rams were coming off a 1-15 record, and more importantly, their new mascot was unnamed.
Oh, the horror.
The Rams let the fans decide what our new fluffy-friend would be named and the people chose right. The team rebounded from three abhorred seasons.
Clearly that’s because we went with something tough-sounding like “Rampage”…and not something silly like “Ramsey” or “Rammer”.
