RIP Ernie Hays

Longtime St. Louis Cardinals organist Ernie Hays passed away at the age of 77 late last night.  He tickled the ivory for the Blues, Rams and the football Cardinals and served as the main organist at Busch Stadium between 1971 and 2010, when he retired.  Undoubtedly, for those that consider Jack Buck as the voice of their childhood documentary, certainly Ernie Hays would be providing the soundtrack.

Most notably, Hays was known for his work of “Here Comes the King”, the Anheuser-Busch anthem which became synonymous with a trip to Busch Stadium. We posted the mp3 version of Ernie’s organ work awhile back and figured today would be a good time to revisit that.

Download Ernie Hays playing “Here Comes the King”.

Heck, turn that puppy into a ringtone. Although, you may not answer any more phone calls. But hey, that’s your prerogative.
