Ryne Sandberg as the new Cardinals manager? “Hell” and “yes”.

According to Joe Strauss of the Post-Dispatch as well as the entire Internet, the Cardinals have asked permission to interview Hall of Famer and former Cubs 2B, Ryne Sandberg.

Sandberg currently manages the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, the AAA affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies.  We’ll need to check the species genus of “IronPig“, but for now, let’s collectively revel the possibilities of Ryne Sandberg as the heir apparent to Tony La Russa.  So, what you’re telling me is that…a.) the Cardinals can supplant a high profile manager in the Phillies organization…and b.) enrage the entire Chicago Cubs fanbase by hiring Sanberg, while they too, are now actively searching for a manager.

Given the other names mentioned on the Cardinals short-list, we’re not sure that Sandberg is the most qualified, but the aforementioned reasons are certainly enticing.  Mmm, forbidden Sandberg fruit.

We suppose the only question left to ponder is what will this poor Cubs fan do…

The jersey above tells you how revered Ryne Sandberg is at Wrigleyville.

This Renaissance man hates the Cardinals enough to drop $200 for a customized jersey featuring that extremely eloquent and thought-provoking message on the jersey nameplate.  Yet, he did so with #23, Ryne Sanberg’s hallowed jersey number that was retired by the Cubs in 2005.

Another touching tributes from our friends to the North.
