Suppan Latest New/Old Addition

Just a week after they activated Aaron Miles, the Cardinals continued their efforts to relive 2006 by bringing back recently released Jeff Suppan, arguably the worst starting pitcher in baseball over the past four years.

But Suppan wasn’t the only former Cardinals on the list of potential pitching Band-Aids that GM John Mozeliak has considered.  Amongst the alternatives were…

Braden Looper
Mark Mulder
Garrett Stephenson
Britt Reames
Kent Bottenfield
Manny Aybar
John Frascatore
Omar Olivares
Rheal Cormier
Joaquin Andujar
Kurt Kepshire

The other alternative plan was just to see if Albert Pujols could pitch every fifth day.

In the end, apparently the most promising option was signing a guy whose ERA hasn’t dipped below 4.60 since Waino was a closer, our second basemen was named Belliard and Colby Rasmus was playing in Quad Cities.

But while Suppan may be horrible right now, the Cardinals would like to remind any skeptics out there that they’ve got Dave Duncan and he can fix anything.
