JoeSportsFan

steelcage.jpgAs you noticed, there is lots of new fun stuff happening at JSF today.  But rather than sipping champagne at our St. Louis headquarters and patting each other on the backs, we’re also using today to break out a feature that has never been done before in the near five year history of JoeSportsFan.com.

Allow us to use a favorite subject of ours to elaborate:

In WWF/WWE lore, the biggest and baddest matchups traditionally took place in one arena – The Steel Cage.  And we’re not talking about the cheap backyard-quality chain link fence that they place around the ring these days, we’re talking the old school iron cages that looked like they were straight from the lifers wing at Alcatraz.

That’s where the real battles took place.  They were intense, exciting, ridiculous and purely entertaining all at once.

After much painstaking deliberation we’ve determined that, in addition to being the must-see staple of early WWF pay-per-views, The Steel Cage is also the perfect namesake for the newest addition to the site - the first ever JoeSportsFan.com podcast.  The two share many of the same qualities - uber-intensity, ridiculous subject matter and hopefully ample entertainment value.  We’ve even decided to wear King Kong Bundy-style black unitards while recording as our own little “tribute”.

Rather than bore you with uninterrupted rambling like you’ll hear on the radio, we went ahead and did the rambling on our own time and edited out the stuff that didn’t live up to our tremendously high standards.  Then we tossed in some added effects, threw in a few sketches and cut it all up into nice short segments for everyone to enjoy at their leisure.
Our intent is to step into the Steel Cage every other week (or maybe every three) on the site to further celebrate the absurdity of sports, so once you’ve devoured this edition, another one will be on the way shortly.

With Matt Sebek spending significant time the past few weeks designing the snazzy new site you see today, the two voices you hear in this week’s Steel Cage primarily belong to Josh Bacott and Patrick Imig.  But in future editions, the podcast will feature contributions from the entire JSF cast including Bacott, Imig, Sebek and Top 7 guru Jason Major.

Without further adieu, Volume 1 of the JSF Steel Cage:

Rick Majerus Uncovered (04:59)
If there’s one thing none of us wanted to hear about Saint Louis University basketball head coach Rick Majerus it’s that he apparently just loves being naked

Bengals, Hookers and the Super Bowl (6:39)
Super Bowl XLII does nothing to contradict the growing notion that it is the nation’s premier event for prostitution and general debauchery.

Herschel and Dutch make Pros vs. Joes even weirder (4:55)
Considering Herschel Walker’s recent revelation, we suspect his appearance on Pros vs. Joes side-by-side with dimension-traveling Darren Dalton was one for the ages.

It would be an understatement to say that Paul Mirabella was unhappy with the limited selection of combs offered by the Fleer photographer.
