It's a little cold and rainy in lovely St. Louis, Missouri today - which prompted some afternoon YouTube searching, sponsored in part by my favorite video keywords such as "sports", "injury", and "brawl".  Any two of the three matches almost guarantees some lull-hour entertainment.

As fate would have it, "sports" and "brawl" landed on a jackpot today.  Take a gander.

In short - fan jumps on field.  Fan gets caught by stadium security.  Stadium security overuses weapons.  Stadium security, in turn, gets pummeled by fans and players alike.

Simply brilliant.

Keep your eye on the cop getting jiggy with his billy-club (on the far right when beating the fan).  When the fan revolution starts to go down, he runs away - presumably into safe shelter, alike a few of his friends, who got taken by the mob.

Guys, this is a really old video. It happened in France, when Benfica (my club, a portuguese one) played some exhibition match in 2003 or 2004. No, it isn't play by play, it's a news report. And the most incredible thing is that the fan who entered the field was only trying to show his support for the referee, who apparently was a family member of his.And the other golden bit: in the stands were mostly portuguese immigrants. There were Benfica fans, but also Porto and Sporting fans (our rivals). But when it came to kicking the face of the security guards, everybody came together. What a wonderful world.

Near the 1:20 mark, there is a bald cop laying on the ground nearly motionless... I was able to translate what the announcer was saying, and it was something along the lines of...."That bitch is dead".

towards the end the the video Look at the fan with the red shirt long shorts going near the cop with the club that started this whole mess. It looks like the fan has a knife and tries to take a quick stab at the cop!! Anyone else see this?

I wonder if this was a news piece or the actual play-by-play guy? If it were the pbp guy his tone was pretty ho hum as if he's seen it a hundred times before.

This was also pointed out to me: the cop that runs away is actually pointed out by an angry fan hanging around in the back of the pack - kind of like a defensive back playing some prevent defense. That slimy cop *may* not have gotten away.

curious.......I had the exact same thought when I watched it. Interesting observation.

something kinda craptastic about this video:watch the bald security guard on the left from our vantage point (the one who gets a flying dropkick to the back of the dome to start the whole shindig off)... doesn't it look like he's actually trying to either calm the dude getting beat, or stop the other guard from whacking him? at the very least, he looks to be the only one not giving him the business, and he's the one who takes the brunt of the initial beating. not saying the dude's innocent, for all i know, he was actually saying "no, no, hit him here, it'll hurt more" when it looks like he's trying to play peacekeeper, just saying from this angle he looks more or less innocent. anybody know where/when this whole brouhaha went down?

What a pussy that cop is. Not only is he a big man when he has a weapon and his buddies are holding the guy down, but he leaves them to take the punishment for his assault. Can't wait for you to explain this one to your kids, you slimy fucker.

Love when the cops realize a bad investment and cut their loses.

And they say soccer isn't exciting.

Well, it gives the NBA something to aspire to. Seriously, though, that's frightening. Pure fight ot flight reflexes there. I speak from experience.

Wow. Just wow.
