Well friends, we've gone through a week that frankly, I never thought I'd see: it was the week that Brett Favre retired. In case you missed any of the 97 hours of coverage yesterday, you can catch Brett "having a moment" at his retirement speech.
For all the fun we've had at Favre's expense over the last 5 years, he really was a unique player. Sure, more than 90% of the fun we've had and written about has come via the media's infatuation with the Gunslinger, but Brett contributed to a slim portion of it, too.
In the end, Favre believed the media hype and kinda sorta became a caricature of himself. The forced celebrations became obvious and the way he waffled over retirement with the media the two previous seasons was annoying. Sure enough, he picked 2006 Draft weekend to "come back" and the Super Bowl in February 2007 to "come back", but in the big picture, Favre's slim contributions to the Media/Favre Phenomenon is nothing compared to Berman, Petey King, Madden and the others who have enhanced HIS legacy.
All that said, it truly is going to be different watching football without his royal highness Fav-ruh. I still say he plays another regular season game, as he pointed out on more than 5 occasions yesterday that he can "still play". However, my opinion means nothing... especially when my job right now is to help you the reader celebrate the Favre legacy.
Ladies and gentlemen, behold the majesty of Brett Favre's negburns.
I'm only saying it was forced towards the end of his career... hence the "in the end" line as written above. Sorry, but I'll never believe otherwise. The touchdown to donald driver in the NFC Championship game was a perfect example of it.

Ya know what's forced? The pronouncing Favre as "Farve". Or, Roy as "Waa". Or Sade as "Shardizzle" or however the hell she told us to pronounce it.

Cmon, I agree Favre gets way too much praise from the media and I was really tired of it, but saying his excitement is forced is just dense. You think he sits there and forces fists pumps, jumping on teammates, and running down the field? I'm sure his running down the field with his helmet off in Super Bowl XXXII was forced too. Cmon, he's done it his whole career.

We can only pray that the picture above is the model for his Hall of Fame bust.

Wow. Rookie Favre really looks like his mom drank while she was prego.
C. Berman, March 7, 2008 06:03 AM
Um, what? Is this an April Fool's joke a month early? Brett "Jesus H. Christ" Favre can't be retiring...he'd have called me first.

Fun......that's what Favre was about......his play for the Chiefs in Sper Bowl XXVIII was truly masterful......the fact that he also won a World Series with the Mariners is an accomlishment nobody will ever match......now, excuse me for a moment......I think I feel a blood clot in my brain.

Sure his celebrations were forced, but it was because he wants to win SOOOO bad.

Running down the field and carrying Donald Driver on his shoulders was forced. He knows the cameras are on him and he knows he has the "fun" label, so he stepped it up a notch.

You thought his celebrations were forced? Are you that dense?
When it came to selecting his new team as a free agent, Frank Dipino considered two things 1.) money and 2.) the quality of the team’s tanning equipment.
