TFAMB: 5 Stages of Brewers Fan Grief

One out away from picking up a half game on the Cardinals, it looked like the Brewers were keeping the heat on in the race for the second Wild Card.  Three batters later, Milwaukee fans were convinced the season was over.

The 2-1 loss to the Reds was a brutal tease and put the Brewers 4 games back with 6 to play and not one but two teams to leap-frog.  After a quick glance at the comments section of the Brewers SB Nation site BrewCrewBall.com, it became clear that fans had navigated their way through the 5 Stages of Grief over the course of one inning.  Cue up the Thoughts From a Message Board music…

1.) DENIAL
So, a four percent chance to make the postseason means it’s over, right?…

2.) ANGER

3.) BARGAINING

4.) DEPRESSION

5.) ACCEPTANCE

As messed up as it may seem, the same Cardinals fans benefitting from last night’s loss are probably the ones who can sympathize the most with what Brewers fans.  In Game 156 last year, we saw a similar gut punch game when the bullpen blew a 6-run lead against the Mets in Game 156 and seemingly crippled any chance of completing the miraculous comeback.

Let’s just hope the Cardinals don’t free fall like the 2011 Braves.  We know they’ve been through some grief as well.
