The St. Louis Sports Weekend, in Pictures…

Post-holiday Mondays are one of the worst in the Corporate Monday kingdom.  They probably rank third on the list, right behind “Post Honeymoon Mondays” and “Took a Softball to the Groin at a Weekend Tournament Mondays”.

Because your brain and digestive system are likely clogged with malted hops, tryptophan and gravy, we’ll take it easy on you this morning.  We have a cure.  Well, either use a vacation day….or sit back and enjoy very little words, but plenty of pictures in our critically-acclaimed (i.e., both of our Moms love it) pictorial Weekend Recap.

Names to know: Sam Bradford, Danny Amendola, Billy Bajema, Joe McEwing, Howie Long, Dennys Reyes, Davis Payne, Al Hrabosky, Willie McGee, Donnie Jones, Scott Linehan, Chuck Norris and Wyatt Earp.

Before the game, FOX showed video of Sam Bradford and Danny Amendola snuggling on the sidelines.  Even though the Rams hung on for a 36-33 win over the Denver Broncos, we were all victors before the game even began.

—–

Many of the Rams players have been participating in “Movember” (the November tribute to mustaches and facial hair), and P Donnie Jones came out on Sunday rocking a killer fu manchu.  Hungo approves.

—–

Another benefit of being a fan in a “rebuilding era” is not worrying when your team’s head coach is going to get the ax.  Yes, the “FIRE LINEHAN” signs in St. Louis were gratifying (and true) for a majority of his employment tenure, but it’s never an indication that things are headed in the right direction.

Another TD for backup RB Kenneth Darby.  Getting in the end zone has to be thrilling for Darby.  Then again, anything is better than getting cold-cocked by a referee during the run of play.

—–

Billy Bajema scored two TD’s for the Rams on Sunday.  Because we’re the local experts on all things gritty, we’ve been receiving questions about his scrappiness.  After all, he’s extremely white….has a funny name…and wears Joe McEwing’s number.  That’s usually a recipe for legendary status in St. Louis, however, he’s listed as 6′ 4″ on the Rams roster.  Thus, Billy Bajema is ineligible for scrappy adjectives.  You heard it here first, kids.

—–

Is Sam Bradford undersized for an NFL quarterback?  Ask the FOX sideline staffer who was on the business-end of an errant run out of bounds.  Yeah yeah, internal bleeding, headache, whatever.  You better have gotten got audio on that hit, sound monkey.

—–

Chris Long had another solid game for the Rams.  Two more tackles and a sack for 6.5 on the year.  His father Howie was pretty excited back at the FOX studios.  Actually, allow us to rephrase that.  He was REALLY excited.

—–

The Blues played the Dallas Stars twice this weekend.  They lost both games, despite being ahead late in both.  It’s really hard to hate the Dallas Stars when their goalie, Kari Lehtonen, has pictures of Chuck Freaking Norris on his mask.  It would be much easier for Blues fans to spit venom at him if it featured Bin Laden or, say, Eric Brewer.

We have no idea who the Wyatt Earp look-alike is in the Scottrade penalty box, but someone find him and make him a star.  Now.  Please.

—–

A mix of injuries and reality have descended the Blues’ success in recent weeks, but it’s evident that this team has turned the corner on a new era.  It’s time for head coach Davis Payne to do the same with the scraps remaining on the top of his dome.

—–

Mizzou Defensive Coordinator Dave Steckel was a naysayer to DB Carl Gettis’ advice that you could deeper on squats by wearing no underwear.  He was never so excited to be wrong.

—–

According to several reports, the Phillies are interested in signing Dennys Reyes.  By our estimates, his departure from St. Louis will decrease local restaurant revenues by 7.2%.  But, this news gives us an excuse to post one of our favorite graphics from the past Cardinals season.

—–

And finally, in our effort to keep St. Louisans sane during the baseball off-season…and preserve the memories of the great Willie McGee, we close out this week’s Weekend pictorial recap with some random Cardinals coverage.
