Weekly Hypothetical: Pick one Nintendo song for your MLB entrance music.
2012
Whether you’re coming out of the dugout for a critical at-bat or stepping out of the bullpen to seal up another close lead, you need entrance music. Plain and simple. We’ve been fascinated with the current portfolio of Cardinals entrance music and we’ve used it as the impetus for a past Weekly Hypothetical.
But we’re switching it up a bit this week…

Typically, entrance song are loud, stadium anthems that pump up the respective player and the supporting fan base. This week we’re flipping that paradigm on its head and going with catchy, 8-bit jingles.
You have the choice of any old school Nintendo song as your entrance music. Sports game or non-sports game.
What game are you choosing to ensure that it warms your adrenaline with nostalgic gaming console dominance?
We’ll read the top three answers on Episode 10 of The JoeSportsFan Show this week and give a JSF logo t-shirt to the lucky individual that scores top honors. You can throw your hat into the ring one of three ways:

RBI Baseball theme song–classic, and appropriate
The Legend of Zelda. Pimp slapping dragons and princesses for years now.
For a closer, Super Mario Bros. Bowser Castle Music.

You’re at the end of the baseball game, just like you’re at the end of Mario Bros. Also, you’re the final boss. Finally, this would sound amazing if the organist played it.
Two outs, bases are loaded, bottom of the ninth, down by 3 runs. I walk up to the plate to the star theme from Mario (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLb33K8UO30) and hit a grand slam on the first pitch. I proceed to knock over each player from the other team because I have the damn star from Mario.
I would have to go with the song playing in “Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!” when Lil Mac goes for a run while his trainer Doc rides a bike between fights. Always jacked me up.

StarFox. No contest.
The Dr. Wily Castle theme from Mega Man 2. In addition, it would kill two birds with one stone by being a nice way of waxing nostalgia an possibly confusing the younger generation with a “new” dubstep hit.

Get it Back by Gucci Mane. Best of both worlds. It has a prominent sample of the Tetris song, but still has a hard-hitting rap edge to it as well.

Level 1 of Contra. It will make 40,000 people enter “The Code” in their heads. In fact, you are remembering “The Code” right now.
The boss intro music that plays after you select a stage in Mega Man 2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iBuhnyaNpY
I’m gonna go with Bases Loaded II – Second Season. The crowd will go nuts mindlessly clapping and stomping their feet to this classic.

hands down Dr. Mario http://youtu.be/B1VHjkIu16U
If we’re going with just NES games, I’m going with the theme song from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game (starts at :16) – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6M0I5H4plg&feature=relmfu
However, if it is open to any 8-bit song, I have to go with Trogdor from Homestar Runner – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4-T0-2CRqs
Final Fantasy 1 – the battle music, specifically. If your blood isn’t pumping when you listen to this, it’s because your heart was removed by a Grey Imp before you could level up.

Fever from Dr. Mario. Just gay enough to single up the middle once a game.

Or Music from Formula One: Built to Win

Close and late. Your lead-footed catcher on 2nd. You’ll need to put something in the gap to score him. You walk up to this noise:

Double Dragon.
Two out, two on, bottom of the ninth. Cards are down two. A homer wins it. But it’s the pitchers spot. All the usual pinch hitters have been used up. Matheny’s head turns to you, “You’re up, sport.” It’s time to make your mark on this game. What’s your walk up music? The song that’s played when the game is paused in Battle Toads.

Result: You crush a line drive straight into the outfield wall. The ball is hit so hard it’s embedded in the padding. Ground rule double… Base runner from first can’t score. Why does this happen? Because you can never win in w/ Battle Toads. It’s just too damn hard.
The truth.
Thought about picking something more obscure (MC Kids, anyone), but I can’t:
Mega Man 2 title theme

The ending song from Contra: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ien99eoZJDM
Gotta take mine from easily the greatest baseball title of all time, Baseball Stars. The rally music that plays once you get a guy to second or further is classic at-bat music.
For an example, go to the 1:54 mark of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3a_Kh4Kq8Ts
The music from The Black Bass (NES) once the fish is on the hook.

The training theme song to Mike Tyson’s punchout.
I’d definitely have Super Mario Bros. World 1-2 the first underground
Here’s the link to world 1-2
