As pointed out by Joe Posnanski’s dissection of Tony LaRussa’s managerial decisions during Saturday night’s 20-inning affair, Cardinals newbie Bryan Anderson’s official position, as noted by Baseball-Reference.com is “pinch hitter”.
This is stated as such because Anderson hasn’t played an “official” inning in the field – which is sure to change.
Or maybe not. Who knows really, given Yadier Molina’s desire to play every inning and La Russa’s reluctance to use him, even as a pinch hitter in the 19th inning when two relief pitchers gobbled up plate appearances before him.
