We’ve covered the phenomenon of “his/her personalized jerseys” in the past and noted that it scores high amongst our seasoned fan hunters. Sure, they’re typically sappy in nature, but it shows an effort beyond a regular ‘ole replica jerseys. Not to mention, the commitment needed to travel everywhere together while wearing the his/her jersey pair is admirable. Because, you can’t travel alone. A singleton jersey in a his/her pair just doesn’t make sense.

That being said, we were sent a photo this week that caused us to doubt our intuition.

That’s right.

“I’ve got 99 problems, but a bitch ain’t one” isn’t just a lyric to a Jay-Z song anymore. It’s been immortalized by a St. Louis Cardinals shirsey.

Earlier this year, the same phenomenon was captured at a Washington Nationals game by Washington Post sports blogger Dan Steinberg. It seems that the trend his spread inland. Now, the Nationals don’t have as much (read: any) tradition, so the numbers 99 and 1 aren’t directly defacing hallowed names within the organization.

But the same isn’t true in St. Louis.

You’re directly spitting in the face of Ozzie Smith and the one and only So Taguchi.

The Guch’s legacy deserves better.
